Right-click the network icon in the Windows 7 system tray, and select "Open Network and Sharing Center" Setting Up a Dial Up Connection Using A Wireless WAN Device The Dial Up Connection (and setting up a USB WWAN card as a "dial up" connection) works because in these cases the card is used as a modem, thereby bypassing the limitation of NDIS drivers, to connect to the internet. We were able to use our Cisco VPN Client (version 5.) by simply using the WWAN card as a dial up connection. The WWAN adapter type bypasses NDIS IM (Intermediate) drivers, so the Client NDIS IM driver fails to receive packets that go in and out via WWAN devices. Traffic accepted by a network card (NIC) (think of a NIC as another adapter type) is controlled by an NDIS (Network Driver Interface Specification) Miniport Driver. Windows 7 introduced a new adapter type called WWAN (wireless wide area network). They therefore can't reach any resources inside our network. When our mobile 3G or WWAN devices are used for internet connectivity, and a VPN connection is made using the Cisco IPSec VPN Client, users are able to connect and authenticate to the head end (ASA), but no traffic passes through the tunnel. I know this is an old thread, but I'm posting a workaround in case someone comes across the thread in future.
